This isn’t a story about knocking the novel coronavirus out of existence. We wish it were.
But even without a pandemic, indoor air is, on average, twice as polluted as outdoor air. In fact, it can be up to five times more polluted. Here are just some of the contaminants you’re likely to inhale every day:
- Dust and dust mites
- Germs, including those that can cause Influenza A
- Pesticides and chemical fertilizers that travel indoors on the soles of your shoes
- Pollen
- Mold and mildew
- Chemical cleaner byproducts
- Particulates, often brought on by alternate heat sources
- Off-gases from new carpets and other man-made materials
The total known list is considerably longer. Even worse is the harm polluted air can cause – colds, flu, the onset or worsening of allergies, along with other respiratory ailments.
Who needs any of that? Certainly not you.
While C&D Cooling and Heating offers you numerous air quality solutions, we often recommend one of the following.
Whole-House Air Filter
A whole-house air filter can rid your home of more than 99% of airborne pollutants. Installed inside your duct work, the system works year-round to help keep your air fresh and clean. Once your furnace or AC fan engages, conditioned air begins to flow through your ducts. As that air reaches the filter, the pollutants are removed. For this purpose, HEPA filters work the best. In addition to more breathable air, you’ll also notice fewer unpleasant odors, less dust to clean, plus longer lasting AC and furnace filters.
Ultraviolet (UV) Air Purifiers
Unlike air filtration systems that depend on HEPA filters or other devices to trap dust and other particles, UV air filtration uses ultraviolet light to keep viruses and other microorganisms from reproducing and infecting your home. Ultraviolet light damages the genetic material that controls the reproduction of these organisms, making it impossible for them to reproduce. This stops these illness-inducing microbes in their tracks and prevents the spread of various diseases and other problems.
Healthier Air, Healthier You
While clean air is its own benefit, it’s also one more way to build and protect your immune system. And, as you’ve heard over and over, a healthy immune system is one way to fight off never-before-seen viruses like COVID-19.
